The lovely gardens at Stone Head are the creation of local landscape designer, Amy Gras, owner of Coming Home Landscaping. The design features the work of several

artists. The gourd and raspberry cedar wood trellises are the handiwork of Needmore resident, Noah Larson. The centrally located curved garden, designed primarily for viewing from the large kitchen window, entices traffic driving toward Story. It features two raised beds lined by hand-hewn quarry stones from a former

residence. The creek stone pathway punctuated by many interesting geodes leads to the focal point, a birdbath uniquely crafted from iron, sandstone and glass by Jim Connor.
Surrounding the sculpture is the kitchen herb garden. Waddling, traditional English willow twig fencing, delineates the outer edges of the perennial garden. The northeast garden features a stone birdhouse that was home to a pair of nesting bluebirds it’s first year! Siding made with
Lake Michigan
stones supports a copper roof. The small sandstone morel is an accent piece made by Rob Rogers. The southeast garden displays more native perennials and grasses punctuated with annuals. At the base of the large sycamore tree are two stone benches and an old stone well covering elevated with a quarried stone base. Glorious heirloom foxglove and hollyhocks bloom near the porch in early summer. A tiled birdbath on the home's west side cleverly hides a utility meter.
